World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD)

In total twenty four events took place across Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin to mark WEAAD. It’s great that so many organisations commemorated the day.

At SPIC the staff team dressed in purple and ate purple cakes baked by Kallista whilst going about their work.

On June 15th Peter Clarke (Head of Adult Safeguarding, Shropshire Council), Claire Smout and Richard Lockett from the Care Workforce Development Team visited the six events identified by the judging panel as the most innovative across Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin. Judith McGillivray (Principal Officer, Adult
Protection Telford & Wrekin) and colleagues also had a stand outside WH Smiths in Telford raising awareness of Elder Abuse with the general public.

To Proprietors / Managers of Nursing Homes in Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin

Dear Colleagues,

Shropshire Partners in Care agreed with Shropshire County PCT that a Task & Finish Group be set up to determine a cost model for the purchase of continuing care beds. The first meeting of the group was held at the end of April and we have given ourselves until September to complete the work which will then be taken to the PCT for formal approval by November. To ensure completeness Telford & Wrekin PCT is being invited to join the process.

Shrewsbury & Telford Hospitals Trust is applying for Foundation Trust status

You may be aware that the Shrewsbury & Telford Hospitals Trust is applying for Foundation Trust status. This will give the Trust much greater autonomy and financial control over its own affairs. Perhaps more importantly it will keep decision making local.
