The way in which we provide social care services for adults is being transformed. The Government in its ‘Putting People First ‘document has set out some of the biggest challenges and changes for social care since the introduction of the 1990 NHS and Community Care Act. This aims to help people remain independent for as long as possible. Our approach will change to enable people to have far greater control over their assessment, and more choice as to what services will be delivered to meet their needs. This includes access to information and the resources to access the services that suit them and their personal requirements.
A ‘Putting People First in Telford and Wrekin’ transformation programme has been identified from which the changes to our current systems will be made. This programme commenced on 1 July 2008 and is expected to continue through to 2011.
More information, including the October newsletter, is available on the Putting People First internet site at http://www.telford.gov.uk/puttingpeoplefirst. This website will be kept up to date with the latest information.
