In total twenty four events took place across Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin to mark WEAAD. It’s great that so many organisations commemorated the day.

At SPIC the staff team dressed in purple and ate purple cakes baked by Kallista whilst going about their work.

On June 15th Peter Clarke (Head of Adult Safeguarding, Shropshire Council), Claire Smout and Richard Lockett from the Care Workforce Development Team visited the six events identified by the judging panel as the most innovative across Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin. Judith McGillivray (Principal Officer, Adult
Protection Telford & Wrekin) and colleagues also had a stand outside WH Smiths in Telford raising awareness of Elder Abuse with the general public.

On June 16th a panel of judges identified the three most innovative events in Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin as follow:

First place - S & T Home Care for their event ‘Full Steam Ahead’

Second place - Cheswardine Hall with their event ‘Wii for WEAAD’

Third place - Stone House for their event ‘Hats Away for Ascot Day’

Special mentions go to the runners up (in no particular order), Doddington Lodge, Brairfields and Heatherdene Care Home who all showed enthusiasm through their event.

There were many events that we could not visit on the day and we would encourage you to send in photos, comments about your event or details of money raised for Action on Elder Abuse. These will feature on the website and on information boards at future events, I will also be sending details of the events in Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin to Action on Elder Abuse.

All participants will be receiving a certificate, in addition the organisations who came first, second and third will have the opportunity to talk about their WEAAD event at the Care Workforce Development Partnership Conference on October 20th in Telford.

Thanks to everyone who participated I look forward to receiving your photos, I will be putting additional information on the website over the next month.
