Karen is currently Clinical Nurse Advisor (Independent Sector) employed by Telford and Wrekin Primary Care Trust (PCT).
Karen joined the health service in 1978 to undertake her training to become a nurse, following qualification Karen worked in general medicine and care of the elderly. In 1987 Karen began working in the community in Shropshire where she specialised in district nursing until she left in 2002 to work as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Staffordshire before returning to clinical work as Community Matron with Telford and Wrekin PCT in 2006. Karen has recently completed a Masters in Health Policy her dissertation examined the concept of self care and the recent National policy relating to it.
Over the last 2 years Karen has worked as Nurse Advisor to the Independent Sector facilitating the development of both nurses and carers across the independent care sector. Karen has a very strong commitment to teaching and learning, the education and development of both herself and others has played a key role throughout her nursing career. Since 2008 Karen has also worked for the Royal College of Nursing Accreditation Unit as one of their Educational Advisors.
