Choking Guidance Training

Who is this course aimed at?

Anyone interested in learning how to minimise the risk of choking in vulnerable adults

What does this course cover?

The Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Choking Guidance document aims to minimise the risk of choking and prevent injury, illness and death, particularly in the vulnerable adult population, especially those with a learning disability and/or dementia and should be completed when there are any concerns about a person’s potential to choke.

  • Provide an overview of the Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Choking Guidance document including the risk assessment and management planning tool
  • Assist staff supporting individuals to identify hazards and risks associated with choking
  • Offer guidance in how to manage hazards and risks
  • Include experiences and feedback from people who have experience of using the guidance day to day
  • Provide practical examples and group work to support learning

  • All learners must present evidence of a negative PCR or LFD test result taken within 72 hours before the start of the face to face course (evidence accepted includes: test result text message or email from the NHS, or NHS app record).
