It is recommended that all learners take a LFT, 12 hours or less, before the start of the course.

What does the course cover?

The correct procedure to obtain venous blood samples following current policies and procedures

  1. Prior to attending the course learners will need to arrange (via their manager) a suitable mentor to assess and sign off their competency in practice following attendance at the practical venepuncture classroom session.
  2. The mentor must be someone proficient in phlebotomy, for example, a registered nurse or phlebotomist. (Your local GP surgery may have a suitable person you could approach).
  3. Care Providers/Managers will need to identify the learners mentor prior to the course and bring the completed learning contract to the practical training session.
  4. At the end of the course learners will leave with a certificate of attendance for the practical session, however they will not be competent to work in practice until they have been signed off by their mentor.
