Workforce Development Fund (WDF)

Background

WDF is funding from the Department of Health that is distributed by Skills for Care through a network of employer led partnerships across England. The Care Workforce Development Partnership (CWDP) which is part of Shropshire Partners in Care is the employer led partnership for Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin.

Adult Social Care employers in England can access WDF towards the cost of staff completing adult health and social care qualifications e.g. Apprenticeships, Diplomas, Certificates and Awards.

In 2018/19 the CWDP has provided support to employers to assist them in meeting the eligibility criteria for claiming WDF. The value of Workforce Development Fund Contract awarded to CWDP in 2018/19 is £163,805

Update on the Workforce Development Fund (WDF) 2019/20

  • Skills for Care have notified us of our WDF funding allocation for 2019/20 and we are expecting our 2019/20 WDF Contract to be issued sometime in July.  This is later than in previous years and Skills for Care have advised that this is due to delays in the agreement of work programmes by the Department of Health and Social Care caused by the current political situation
  • When we get our 2019/20 Contract we will immediately update our Funding Pack for 2019/20 and email it to you.  It will contain all of the information and forms that you need to make a WDF claim in 2019/20
  • We will also arrange a programme of WDF Drop-in Sessions and dates will be notified to you

Update on the transition from NMDS-sc to ASC-WDS

  • The National Minimum Data Set for Social Care (NMDS-sc) is being updated by Skills for Care and at some point later this year will become the Adult Social Care Workforce Data Set (ASC-WDS)
  • The ASC-WDS is still being developed and Skills for Care do not yet have an implementation date
  • Skills for Care advise that WDF members should continue to update their current NMDS-sc accounts as normal and any changes that you make will automatically migrate across to the new ASC-WDS system

Actions you can take now to be ready to claim WDF in 2019/20

To ensure that you are compliant and ready to claim as soon as the 2019/20 WDF Fund opens, please take the following actions during June 2019:

  • Update your NMDS-sc worker records for a minimum of 90% of the total workforce to ensure compliance to claim WDF in 2019/20.  When you have done this, Skills for Care will add your organisation to our WDF Claim form and you will be able to claim WDF
  • Identify learners that have completed qualifications since 1 January 2019 that you have not yet claimed for and ensure you have copies of the Awarding Body/Endorsed Provider Certificates and copies of the training provider invoice if you have paid for the training to evidence WDF claims.

Please contact Jackie Smith or Amanda Berey on 01743 860011 if you have any queries or require further information about WDF.
